T1, W7: Self-Portraits

 WEEK 7 - TERM 1

Self-Portraits

After returning from lockdown and settling back in to our class routines, we finally had time to go back and continue working on our self-portraits.

Our initial self-portraits were done with pencil and paper. They were pretty interesting drawings, because a lot of us drew pictures of what we THOUGHT we looked like. This included pictures with mohawks, dyed hair colours, yellow eyes, green hair, you name it! We even had someone draw themselves as an alien!

Ms Key had a look at our pictures and asked us questions to help us reflect on what we had drawn. Let's just say...we had quite a bit of work to do!

Ms Key also reflected on some of the art materials we were using, and decided that we would make some changes. Some of the small changes we made included...

- Using black card, not white paper;

- Using chalk to outline our faces, facial features, and background;

- Using oil pastels to add colour;

- Taking a photo of ourselves (a.k.a. a selfie), so that we wouldn't have to look in a mirror to see our reflection, AND so that we were always looking at a photo that was still.

This new approach worked wayyyyy better, and we all ended up producing some pretty awesome self-portraits.

Check out some of our amazing self-portraits below...
