Week 8, Term 1
Resilience
A few years ago, I remember being asked a question...
'How do you create an art piece on 'resilience'?'
...and I distinctly remember thinking - I HAVE NO IDEA!
Fast-forward 7 years, and i've finally realised a few things...
Resilience art thinkings...
- There is no particular way to create an art piece on 'resilience';
- 'Resilience' is a concept. We can't hold it in our hands. It's intangible.
- Resilience can't be shown as 'art', but rather - 'Art builds resilience'
*WOW*
One of our Room 12 students, when working on his self-portrait, started and restarted his art piece sooo many times, that he had filled up a quarter of the paper bin.
A QUARTER OF THE PAPER BIN!
Anyways, to cut a long story short...in the end, he created a self-portrait that encapsulated (ooooh big word) a few key life learnings that basically sum up, what it really means, when we say 'Art builds resilience!
1. It doesn't matter how long it takes, just keep trying!
2. Always try YOUR best!
3. *cue Aaliyah lyrics* - If at first you don't succeed, dust yourself off and try again!
Do you agree or disagree?
