Ra'ui - Giving it back to the Gods

Ra'ui - Giving it back to the Gods

This week Room 12 have been working through some learning and tasks based around a text called Ra'ui - Giving it back to the Gods. Ra'ui is an ancient Polynesian way of managing resources. When a ra'ui is placed over a particular area, it means that noone is allowed to take anything from it (the area). The ra'ui that this text refers to is in the Cook Islands.

Room 12's reading tasks for this week included identifying key information, making connections, and asking questions.

Did you know that these types of reading skills are super important to have and know?

Check out some of the work that Room 12 students have been working on.

Demetrius' take on the text, and a connection he made to a story his grandmother told him

- Chloe's animation on asking questions about ra'ui

- Madeleine's slide deck about ra'ui using different reading strategies

Does your culture have any ancient or traditional practices similar to a ra'ui?
